Physically based rendering (PBR) is an approach in
computer graphics that seeks to
render graphics in a way that more accurately models the
flow of light in the real world. Many PBR pipelines have the accurate simulation of
photorealism as their goal. Feasible and quick
approximations of the
bidirectional reflectance distribution function and
rendering equation are of mathematical importance in this field.
Photogrammetry may be used to help discover and encode accurate optical properties of materials.
Shaders may be used to implement PBR principles.
Augmented reality (
AR) is an interactive experience of a
real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real-world
are "augmented" by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes
across multiple sensory modalities, including
visual,
auditory,
haptic,
somatosensory, and
olfactory.
[1][2]
The overlaid sensory information can be constructive (i.e. additive to
the natural environment) or destructive (i.e. masking of the natural
environment) and is seamlessly interwoven with the physical world such
that it is perceived as an
immersive aspect of the real environment.
[3] In this way, augmented reality alters one's ongoing perception of a real-world environment, whereas
virtual reality completely replaces the user's real-world environment with a simulated one.
[4][5] Augmented reality is related to two largely synonymous terms:
mixed reality and
computer-mediated reality.
A
robot is a
machine—especially one programmable by a
computer— capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically.
[2]
Robots can be guided by an external control device or the control may
be embedded within. Robots may be constructed on the lines of human
form, but most robots are machines designed to perform a task with no
regard to how they look.
Robots can be
autonomous or semi-autonomous and range from humanoids such as
Honda's
Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility (
ASIMO) and
TOSY's
TOSY Ping Pong Playing Robot (
TOPIO) to
industrial robots, medical operating robots, patient assist robots, dog therapy robots, collectively programmed
swarm robots,
UAV drones such as
General Atomics MQ-1 Predator, and even microscopic
nano robots. By mimicking a lifelike appearance or automating movements, a robot may convey a sense of intelligence or
thought of its own.
Autonomous things are expected to proliferate in the coming decade,
[3] with home robotics and the
autonomous car as some of the main drivers.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is an intelligent 3D model-based
process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC)
professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design,
construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.
